I Can Help You and Your Child

Hello, amazing parents and guardians!

Welcome to Lighthouse, a place for kids. It’s safe to say that being a parent is the best, hardest job on earth. Let’s face it: One of your jobs as a parent is to know the individuals in your child’s life. Looking for the right mental health professional is no different. Let me share a little bit about myself.

I am Dr. Shontinese C. Huey, a native of California’s Central Valley and a former Division I softball player for Utah State University. From a very young age, I have always advocated for children. Life gave me a gift by allowing psychology to find me. True story: I entered my undergraduate program as a physical therapy major after feeling inspired by my physical therapist during my recovery from knee surgery in high school.
So, off to college I go to study physical therapy. During the first semester of my sophomore year, I picked up a friend’s textbook, “Introduction to Psychology”; the rest
was history.

Growing up, I naturally gravitated towards helping children. Anytime assistance was needed in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Children’s Church, speaking to young girl athletes, teaching skills in softball clinics, or making instructional videos for primary age educators in college, I was always happy to oblige in opportunities to enhance a young person’s life. Those experiences helped guide my mission as the founder and owner of Lighthouse; I am passionate about children’s and tweens’ healthy growth and
development.

I received a Doctor of Psychology Degree in 2005 from the California School of Professional Psychology. I have extensive training through prestigious child-focused
programs like River Oak Center for Children, Sacramento, and the University of California Davis Children’s Hospital-CAARE Center. Additionally, I hold an infant and preschool mental health certification.

My 25+ years of experience working with families have taught me that children thrive best in treatment and beyond when the parents are present and positively participate.

Your presence helps your child grow their voices through supportive parental care and guidance. Combining my approach of an exceptional blend of high energy, creativity, compassion, evidence-based, and solution-focused interventions with your expertise as
the parent, your family will feel hope for a brighter tomorrow.

I look forward to being your family’s “Beacon of Light”! Let’s begin the journey to healing
